I believe that successful museum interpretation is in essence all about providing visitors with remarkable things to see. Here are some wonderful but less well known museums, exhibitions and historic monuments that I would strongly recommend you visiting if you happen to be in the area:

• Museum of Natural History in Cambridge Massachusetts to see the Ware Collection of Glass Flowers
• Vasamuseet in Stockholm to see a perfectly preserved 17th Century warship
• Dennis Severs House, London to experience a recreation of a Huguenot silk weavers house
• The Statue Park (Szoborpark) Budapest to see some of the Communist era monuments that used to dominate Budapest
• The Cloisters Museums, New York to see the Unicorn Tapestries and many other wonders of gothic art
• Hearst Castle near San Simeon, California to see the opulent former home of the newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst
• The island of Torcello in the Venice lagoon to see the Byzantine mosaics in the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta
• Highgate Cemetery - If you want to really learn about Victorian and Edwardian London the place to go is Highgate Cemetery in north London. Full of fascinating stories about rich and at the time famous Londoners. A unique and very moving insight into our past
• Turning the Pages - And if you find yourself in cyber-space have a look at this beautiful web site developed by the British Library where you can explore some of their treasured collections in high quality digitised form.
